It is estimated that almost 8,000 people in the Northern Beaches live with dementia. It is expected to grow by 38% by 2050 and almost 150% in Pittwater alone. 70% of people with dementia are living in the community. Whilst these statistics show the harsh reality of the disease, there are lots of programs spreading awareness of the disease, with much needed funds going into continued research and education around Dementia.
In 2023, it is estimated there are more than 400,000 Australians living with dementia. Without a medical breakthrough, the number of people with dementia is expected to increase to more than 800,000 by 2058.
